Calais & Bruges daytrip : 26 March 2016
Around 09.00 we left our home in Zonhoven for a 3 hour drive to Calais where we arrived around 12.30 due to a bit of slow traffic on the way. I had checked in advance when the ferries were arriving and leaving so after a small lunch I had the chance to see my old time favourite the Calais Seaways (former Prins Filip) arrive from Dover. We went to explore Calais from the lighthouse to Tour du Guet and the shops around it and the small park at the end of the main shopping street where some guys were sailing some very nice modelships in the small pond at the park, there was a model of the Bismarck and the new Rainbow Warrior of Greenpeace along with some other ones.We went back to the beach for a small snack in one of the foodstalls and I took some shots of the Spirit of France, Côte des Flandres and ...Originally the plan was to go from Calais to Zeebrugge to see the new P&O cruises Britannia leave port but the Britannia was diverted to Le Havre because of the terrorist attacks on 22 March in Brussels so we went to Bruges instead. Once in Bruges we went to a nice restaurant for diner and by the time we left it was slowly getting dark so we walked arounf the romantic streets of Bruges until we were getting tired and went back home.
