Antonov AN 124-100

Another trip with another iconic aircraft to see. This time I was invited to photograph the amazing Antonov AN 124 at Leipzig airport in Germany.

The story of the AN 124 begins in the USSR and after a design phase, the first prototype takes flight in 1982. The Western world got a first view of the aircraft at the Paris Air Show in 1985 and the type was formally introduced into service in 1986. The aircraft was designed for military transport but when the Soviet Union fell, commercial operations were planned and in 1992 the aircraft was certified for commercial flights. Fast forward to 2024 and Antonov Airlines has 5 of these giants in operation.

I personally got the chance to photograph the UR-82029 of the original type AN 124-100 and a quick few shots inside and outside of the UR-82027 of the facelift type AN 124-100M at Leipzig Airport (LEJ) in October 2024.
