On a sunny but windy day in late August, I went all the way to the very tip of Rozenburg in the port of Rotterdam. There is a small cafe/restaurant () where these 2 fluffy poochies greeted me upon entering.
From there I could see the Stena Line ferryterminal where both daytime and nighttime crossings to Harwich depart. Directly behind it is the old High lighthouse of Hoek van Holland. This is the main channel for the port of Rotterdam so any ship coming in or going out can be seen from this viewpoint.
And when the pilot boat is going out ... you just know something else is coming in soon. This time it was the new addition to the famous Cunard fleet ... Queen Anne!
About the ship
The Queen Anne is the newest ship built for Cunard. She had already been announced in 2017 but at that moment no name was announced, speculations started and people wondered if she was going to be named Queen ... something of Cunard would go back to its old tradional names like Aquitania, Mauretania, Caronia, Berengaria, Laconia, ... however ... in 2022 they announced that her name would be Queen Anne. She is a Pinnacle-class cruise ship and the second largest ship in the Cunard fleet at 322 meters long and 113.000 Gross Tons. The ship entered service in May 2024.
I photographed her at her entrance into Rotterdam and went further along the road near the Maeslantkering for a shoot of her passing between the 2 sections of this floodgate.
Next I went all the way to the SS Rotterdam at Katendrecht where I photographed her a 3rd time while she was passing behind the SS Rotterdam on her way to the cruise terminal, from the stern of the SS Rotterdam I had a good view on the waterway and anything that moves on it.
Onno and Vadym from Onnozone joined me on the SS Rotterdam for some more photos, drinks and snacks, and making plans for the rest of the year before we went back home.
THE END
